"Assessment and Treatment Planning"
Public Services
Arctic Health Services provides assessment and treatment planning for members of the public who are experiencing mental health concerns that are affecting daily functioning, relationships, or work.
While our core focus includes services for First Responders, military members and Veterans, and allied health professionals, we also offer assessment services to individuals outside these professions.
Many people seeking support are living with the effects of multigenerational trauma and intergenerational trauma, including the lasting impacts of family disruption, loss, and chronic stress.
Others present with depression, anxiety, sleep disruption, irritability, grief, relationship strain, or difficulties with concentration and day to day functioning. Some individuals also require assessment for more complex psychiatric concerns, including severe mood symptoms, thought disturbance, or other symptoms that may require specialized planning and medical involvement.
What An Assessment Includes
A public services assessment is a structured appointment that focuses on understanding what you are experiencing and what supports are most likely to help.
Assessment commonly includes:
- Psychiatrist review of current concerns and symptoms
- Personal history and relevant life events, including trauma exposure when you choose to discuss it
- Medical history, medications, and substance use patterns when relevant
- Functional review, including how symptoms affect sleep, relationships, parenting, school, and work
- Safety review, including suicide risk screening when appropriate
- Use of brief questionnaires when helpful to support clarity and track change over time
What You Receive
At the end of the assessment, you will receive:
- A report identifying clear summary of findings
- A working diagnosis when appropriate
- Practical next steps for treatment recommendations for planning and follow up
- Recommendations for psychotherapy and supports, and psychiatric consultation when indicated
Team Based Care
Assessments are completed by a coordinated care team, which may include psychiatry, psychology, and occupational therapy.
With your written consent, we can coordinate with your family physician, insurance, Workers Compensation Board, or other providers to support continuity of care.
This service may be a fit if you are seeking:
- Clarification of symptoms and diagnosis
- A structured treatment plan with clear recommendations
- Assessment related to trauma, depression, anxiety, or stress related concerns
- Assessment when symptoms are affecting work, parenting, or daily functioning
- Guidance when mental health concerns feel complex or have not improved with prior supports
