Our Story


At ARCTIC Health Services, our story is founded on compassion, professionalism, and an unwavering dedication to improving the health and lives of those we serve. We are proud of our history in supporting First Responders, the Canadian Armed Forces, and Veterans in their recovery from traumatic psychological injuries, and we are now expanding our expertise to offer high-quality care to the public. We welcome all individuals, regardless of background or origin, and are committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for everyone.


As an interdisciplinary health center, we provide comprehensive mental health and addiction care through a team of skilled professionals. With a combined experience of over 170 years, our team is highly trained and deeply compassionate in delivering specialized care.


Each team member brings unique expertise from diverse fields such as addictions, mental health, forensic psychiatry, mood disorders, personality disorders, trauma, stress-related conditions, and intergenerational trauma. We take a tailored, client-centred approach to care, recognizing and addressing each individual's complex and varied needs to best support their recovery and well-being.


We also understand the unique challenges First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities face in accessing healthcare. At ARCTIC Health Services, we are committed to providing culturally sensitive care that honours these communities' traditions while addressing their distinct health needs.

Dr. Madhavan Das
Dr. Madhavan Das

MD, FRCPC | Consultant Psychiatrist, Forensic Psychiatry, Individual & Family Psychotherapy 

Dr. Madhavan Das is a highly respected psychiatrist who has served the Edmonton community for many years, with more than 30 years of experience in Canada and the UK. He has worked in correctional settings, hospitals, outpatient programs, and medical education, including teaching in the University of Alberta’s medicine program. Dr. Das is known for his kind, thoughtful, and caring approach, and he is also a published researcher with recognized expertise in complex mental health care. His practice combines psychotherapy, evidence-based treatment, and family involvement. He is also well known for his commitment to and work alongside First Nations and Métis communities.

Dr. Alec Oskin
Dr. Alec Oskin

MD |Youth & Adult Forensic Psychiatry

Dr. Alec Oskin is a highly respected physician with more than 25 years of experience in mental health care, with a particular focus on children, adolescents, and adults with complex needs. He has worked in hospitals, outpatient clinics, and residential treatment settings, supporting individuals with mood and anxiety disorders, ADHD, autism spectrum disorders, trauma, and early-onset psychosis. Dr. Oskin is known for his warm, collaborative, and thoughtful approach to care. He works closely with families and multidisciplinary teams and is recognized for developing innovative programs, contributing to research, and advancing mental health education and wellness in the community.

Dr. Voytek Czernikiewicz
Dr. Voytek Czernikiewicz

MD, FRCPC | Consultant Psychiatrist, Occupational Stress Injury, Trauma, Military

Dr. Voytek Czernikiewicz is a highly respected psychiatrist with more than 15 years of experience in general psychiatry, trauma, and occupational stress injury. He completed specialty training at the University of Alberta and McMaster University and has worked in emergency psychiatry, hospital consultation services, and military mental health settings. Dr. Voytek is known for his warm, thoughtful, and compassionate approach to care. He has particular expertise in trauma-related conditions, psychological injuries, and medication management, and is well recognized for his work supporting Canadian military personnel. His practice reflects a careful, evidence-based approach with strong attention to the whole person, including pain and recovery.

Dr. Olawale Adewusi is a highly respected consultant psychiatrist who serves the Edmonton community with warmth, skill, and compassion. With professional experience in both Canada and the UK, he brings a broad perspective to psychiatric assessment and care. He is particularly recognized for his work with substance use disorders and complex mental health concerns. Dana Magureanu
Dana Magureanu

BSc, RN | Nurse Practitioner, Addiction Prescribing, Women’s Health

Dana is a highly experienced Nurse Practitioner who has spent more than 20 years supporting individuals with mental health and substance use concerns. She is known for her warm, compassionate, and thoughtful approach to care, and for helping people feel safe, heard, and respected. Dana provides comprehensive assessments, diagnosis, and medication management for concerns such as anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders. She is a strong advocate for women’s health and has particular expertise in prescribing for substance use disorders, including outpatient detox and recovery-focused care. Her work is grounded in collaboration, client education, and practical support that helps individuals build stability, resilience, and improved quality of life.

Dr. Claude Shema is a highly respected clinical psychology and psychiatric consultant known for his broad training, thoughtful approach, and compassionate care. With experience across psychiatry, clinical psychology, trauma, addictions, medicine, and neurosurgery, he brings a rare depth of knowledge to complex mental health presentations. Dr. Shema is particularly recognized for his work in trauma, personality disorders, neuropsychiatry, and culturally responsive care. He has worked extensively with Indigenous communities across several provinces and is known for his respectful and trauma-informed approach. His work reflects a strong commitment to clinical excellence, evidence-based practice, and meaningful support for individuals, families, and communities.

Filip Stanic
Filip Stanic

MACP | Counselling Psychology, ACTA, CRPO

Filip Stanic is a thoughtful and compassionate psychotherapist with a master’s degree in counselling psychology and more than 12 years of experience in social services. He has worked extensively with children, youth, and families in crisis and now focuses on supporting adults facing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, burnout, grief, life transitions, perfectionism, and self-esteem concerns. Filip is known for his calm, respectful, and client-centred approach, creating a space where people feel heard and supported. He draws from a range of evidence-based therapeutic approaches and is committed to helping individuals build resilience, work through challenges, and move toward lasting emotional well-being.

Mary Moore
Mary Moore

Medical Office Manager

Mary Moore is a highly experienced Medical Office Manager who brings a rare combination of healthcare, public safety, and administrative leadership to her work. She began her career as a Licensed Practical Nurse and later served as an RCMP Constable, giving her a strong understanding of clinical care, confidentiality, and the realities of public safety service. Mary is known for her calm, capable, and compassionate approach, particularly when supporting individuals affected by trauma, occupational stress injury, moral injury, and sanctuary harm. She also understands the practical challenges of navigating care systems and is well regarded for helping clients and teams manage complex processes with clarity and respect.

Celine Vandenberghe
Celine Vandenberghe

Medical Office Administrator

Celine Vandenberghe is a dedicated Medical Office Assistant with a strong background in military health services and frontline medical care. With 10 years of service and training in the Canadian Armed Forces, she worked within a base medical facility supporting active military members and their families. Her experience includes military medical practice as a Combat Medic/Paramedic and training consistent with Advanced Care Paramedic (ACP) practice in Alberta. Celine is known for her calm, capable, and compassionate approach, especially in fast-paced and high-pressure settings. Her work reflects a strong commitment to respectful care, clinical professionalism, and meaningful support for individuals and families.

Calvin Haws
Calvin Haws

BA, BSc, ACOT | Occupational Therapy, Occupational Stress Injury, Trauma, Return to Work

Calvin Haws is a highly respected occupational therapist and program leader with more than 35 years of experience in rehabilitation, occupational stress injury, trauma, and return-to-work planning. He is known for his compassionate, practical, and thoughtful approach to supporting recovery. Calvin spent more than three decades with the Alberta Workers’ Compensation Board in both front-line and leadership roles, where he made a lasting impact on clients, colleagues, and program development. He also taught for many years at the University of Alberta, helping to shape future occupational therapists. His work reflects a strong commitment to evidence-based rehabilitation, clinical excellence, and meaningful support for recovery and reintegration.

Shawn Meier
Shawn Meier

Director | BSW, MACP, RSW, ACTA | Occupational Stress Injury, Trauma, Mental Health, and Addictions

Shawn Meier is a respected clinician and leader with more than 27 years of experience in mental health, addictions, trauma, and occupational stress injury. He has worked across government, nonprofit, and private healthcare settings, including psychiatry, forensics, corrections, hospital care, residential programs, and return-to-work services. Shawn is known for his thoughtful, compassionate, and grounded approach to care and leadership. He has supported military members, police, paramedics, firefighters, and other public safety personnel in Canada and the United Kingdom. As an Indigenous person, he brings a culturally responsive perspective, integrating Indigenous knowledge, trauma-informed practice, and evidence-based care to support individuals, families, and communities.

Director, The Red Road Healing Society | BSW | Programming, Women’s Wellness, Intergenerational Trauma 

Carmen Severight is a respected community leader known for her warm, grounded, and compassionate approach to supporting individuals, families, and communities. She serves in a leadership role with The Red Road Healing Society in Edmonton, an Indigenous-led organization focused on culturally grounded wellness, family support, and community programming. A Nakota and Cree woman, Carmen brings strong knowledge of Indigenous and cross-cultural ways of understanding healing, parenting, and community wellness. She is well regarded for her work in family support, women’s programming, and intergenerational healing, and for creating spaces that are safe, respectful, and rooted in relationship.

Suzanne Cunningham
Suzanne Cunningham

Director, Restoring Home Fires | MSW, RSW

Suzanne Cunningham is a compassionate and respected mental health professional who is known for her thoughtful, grounded, and supportive approach to care. Her work has included mental health and addictions support in the Edmonton community, with a strong focus on walking alongside individuals and families in meaningful ways. She is recognized for helping people feel heard, understood, and supported as they navigate recovery and wellness.
