"Trauma and Occupational Stress Assessments"

Our Assessment Philosophy

ARCTIC Health Services approaches occupational trauma and operational stress injuries as conditions that require careful, specialised assessment. Small differences in how an assessment is conducted, how clinical findings are interpreted, and how recommendations are communicated can influence outcomes for the individual and can also shape access to supports through employers, insurers, and other systems. Our focus is on clear, evidence based defensible assessments that support recovery, function, and practical next steps.

Who We Serve

ARCTIC Health Services provides trauma and occupational stress assessments for first responders, public service personnel, active military members, and veterans. This includes military, aw enforcement, emergency medical services, fire, peace officers, corrections, emergency dispatch, and conservation officers.

Our clinicians are occupationally aware and experienced in the realities of public safety and service environments. Assessments are completed with attention to the clinical presentation, functional impacts, and the context of the individual’s role, responsibilities, history, time in service, and workplace demands.

What an Assessment Includes

An assessment for first responders, military, and veterans, and public service personnel is a structured appointment focused on clarifying what you are experiencing and identifying supports that are most likely to help.

Assessment commonly includes:

  • Psychiatrist review of current concerns and symptoms
  • Personal history and relevant life events, including trauma exposure if and when you choose to discuss it
  • Medical history, current medications, and substance use patterns when relevant
  • Functional review, including how symptoms affect sleep, relationships, parenting, and work performance
  • Safety review, including suicide risk screening when clinically indicated
  • Use of brief questionnaires when helpful to support clinical clarity and track change over time

What You Receive

At the end of the assessment, you will receive:

  • A written report with a clear summary of clinical findings
  • A working diagnosis when appropriate
  • Treatment recommendations to guide next steps and follow up planning
  • Recommendations for psychotherapy, workplace supports, and physician consultation when indicated

Team Based Care and Coordination

Assessments are completed by a coordinated care team, which may include psychiatry, psychology, and occupational therapy.

With your written consent, we can coordinate with your family physician, insurer, the Workers’ Compensation Board, legal counsel, or other providers to support continuity of care and ensure recommendations are understood across systems.
